What is psychiatric medication management?

Psychiatric medication management is the professional monitoring and prescribing of medication to treat mental health symptoms. It is a clinical process aimed at finding the right molecule and the right dose to stabilize neurochemistry and improve your daily functioning. However, at SoléMar Psychiatry, we believe medication is most effective when it is part of a broader clinical relationship, not just a transaction.

We look at medication as one tool in your wellness toolkit. It can lower the volume on debilitating symptoms so that lifestyle changes, therapy, and personal goals become achievable. Our process involves careful evaluation, evidence based prescribing, and consistent follow up to ensure your treatment remains safe and effective over time.

Thorough Evaluation Before Any Prescription

We do not guess. Every prescription starts with a 60 minute comprehensive psychiatric evaluation where we review your full medical history, past medication response, and current lifestyle before discussing treatment options.

Our Medication Management Model

Our approach is built on three pillars that ensure your care is thorough, consistent, and collaborative.

Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustments

Mental health is dynamic. We schedule frequent follow up appointments to monitor your progress, manage potential side effects, and make precise dose adjustments so your medication protocol stays optimized as your life changes.

Whole Person, One Provider Care

At SoléMar, you aren't just a chart passing through a clinic. You work directly with Dionys Fuster for every session, ensuring your provider knows your story, your labs, and your clinical history inside and out.

Conditions We Treat With Medication Management

While every patient's journey is different, psychiatric medication is often used to stabilize biological symptoms so you can engage more fully in your life. We work with adults to manage symptoms of:

Anxiety & Panic

Anxiety often shows up as tension you can't explain or thoughts you can't slow down. We help you understand what's driving it and build a plan that actually works.

Depressive Disorders

Depression isn't always sadness. Sometimes it looks like exhaustion, fog, or just going through the motions. We start with a thorough evaluation, then build a treatment plan around your life.

ADHD & Focus

ADHD isn't a focus problem. It's an inconsistency problem. It's also one of the most underdiagnosed conditions in adults, especially women. We specialize in recognizing it and treating it correctly.

Sleep & Insomnia

Sleep isn't optional — it's a clinical need. We go after the root cause of your insomnia, not just the symptom.

Chronic Burnout

High achievement shouldn't cost you your health. Burnout is real and it's treatable. We help you recover, not just cope.

Trauma & PTSD

Trauma doesn't stay in the past. We offer a steady, evidence-informed path toward healing, at a pace that respects where you are.

Meet Your Medication Management Provider

Dionys Fuster, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C

I started SoléMar because I watched too many patients fall through the cracks: rushed appointments, rotating providers, and care they couldn't afford to continue. My subspecialty is mood disorders, ADHD in adults, and women's health. My approach is grounded in evidence and built around your actual life.

You'll always work directly with me, in English or Spanish, in person or via telehealth. Every session is a real conversation, not just a medication check.

PRACTICE FOCUS:

  • Anxiety and mood treatments
  • Comprehensive depression care
  • Adult ADHD management
  • Sleep and insomnia solutions
  • Stress and burnout recovery
  • In person and virtual bilingual care
  • Adult only psychiatric services

Controlled Substances and Telehealth

The prescribing of controlled substances, including certain medications for ADHD and anxiety, is subject to strict federal and state regulations. While Florida allows for the management of these medications via telehealth in many cases, an initial in person evaluation in our West Palm Beach office may be required to establish care under current Ryan Haight Act guidelines and Florida state law. Dionys Fuster, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C, conducts thorough psychiatric assessments to determine if a controlled substance is the clinically appropriate first-line treatment or if non-stimulant and non-controlled alternatives better serve your long term health and safety.

Insurance, Language, and Access

SoléMar Psychiatry is committed to making expert medication management accessible. We are in network with major commercial insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Humana. By accepting insurance, we ensure that your ongoing follow up care is sustainable and focused on your clinical needs rather than out of pocket costs. Beyond financial access, we offer complete clinical services in both English and Spanish, ensuring that you can discuss your symptoms, side effects, and goals in the language where you feel most at ease. In person appointments are held in West Palm Beach, with secure telehealth available for adults anywhere in Florida.

Medication Management FAQs

How long is the first medication management appointment?

Your initial psychiatric evaluation is a 60 minute appointment. This allows Dionys Fuster to conduct a deep review of your mental health history, current symptoms, and physical health before determining if medication is the right path for you.

Will I have to stay on medication forever?

Not necessarily. For some, medication is a short term bridge to help them get through a crisis or a specific life phase. For others, it is a long term support for chronic neurochemical imbalances. We regularly re-evaluate your needs and goals during follow up visits.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a PMHNP?

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice nurse with specialized training in mental health. Dionys Fuster is double board certified as a PMHNP and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), allowing her to evaluate both your psychiatric and physical health when prescribing.

Can I get my medications filled via telehealth?

Yes, for most non controlled psychiatric medications, Florida law allows for telehealth management. For controlled substances, an initial in person visit in West Palm Beach is generally required to establish care.

How often do I need follow up appointments?

When starting a new medication or dose, we may meet every 2 to 4 weeks. Once you are stabilized, follow up appointments are typically every 1 to 3 months, depending on your clinical needs.

Do you treat children or adolescents?

At this time, SoléMar Psychiatry exclusively treats adults (ages 18 and older) for psychiatric medication management.

What if I don't want to take medication?

The choice is always yours. During an evaluation, we may discuss non medication alternatives, lifestyle shifts, or therapy options. Our goal is to provide you with the clinical information you need to make the best decision for your health.

What side effects should I expect?

Side effects vary wildly depending on the medication and the individual. We discuss potential risks and benefits in detail before any prescription is written, and we monitor you closely during the initial weeks of treatment.

Can I stay with my current therapist?

Absolutely. We often work as part of a treatment team, collaborating with your therapist or primary care doctor to ensure your mental and physical health care is aligned.

Do you take my insurance?

We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, and Humana. We recommend confirming your specific plan coverage before your first visit.
